Weather Needs an Immersive Television Experience

AccuWeather’s objective was to extend their brand essence of “Superior Accuracy” to their broadcast, providing viewers with a more immersive and informative weather experience. The challenge was to completely overhaul the broadcast experience, ensuring that forecast data was presented with clarity while integrating robust features relevant to individual viewers’ locations.

THE SOLUTION

Rethinking how Weather Accuracy is Important

Wrecking Ball tackled the challenge by collaborating closely with AccuWeather stakeholders to understand datasets to express weather visualization. We designed and built a new experience that allowed viewers to effortlessly comprehend weather data. Moreover, we introduced an innovative design solution that dynamically displayed conditions, connecting viewers to real-time weather updates visually.

In order to represent weather in a consistent manner across AccuWeather, we used their icon system for use whenever the weather needs to be expressed through an image.

Core colors are grouped into families that not only inform weather-specific palettes but allow for clear color themes to be used in brand applications.

Nationwide Impact and Future Expansion

Through our collaborative efforts, AccuWeather successfully extended their brand positioning to their television and digital properties. The overhauled broadcast interface now delivers a seamless and informative weather experience to millions of viewers across the nation. Currently available on DIRECTV, Verizon FIOS, and Frontier, the interface’s success has paved the way for expansion onto Xfinity and Spectrum networks, solidifying AccuWeather’s commitment to “Superior Accuracy” across platforms.
